DroidPass vs Dashlane: The Free Alternative Compared
Dashlane removed its free plan entirely on 16 September 2025, so there is no longer any way to use it without paying. DroidPass is free on unlimited devices with AES-256 encryption, a built-in 2FA authenticator, autofill on Android, iPhone and Mac, and passkeys. Here is an honest look at how the two compare.
Quick verdict
DroidPass is the obvious choice if you would rather not pay. Dashlane removed its free plan in September 2025, and Premium is about $59.88 a year against DroidPass Pro at $17.99 on Google Play — with a free tier underneath it.

Pricing: a free plan against no free plan
This is the difference that matters most. Dashlane discontinued its free plan on 16 September 2025. There is a trial, but no way to keep using Dashlane without a subscription, and Premium is $4.99/month billed annually — about $59.88 a year.
DroidPass is free on unlimited devices: keep your most important logins, use one live 2FA code, and bring your existing vault across without paying. When you outgrow it, DroidPass Pro is $17.99/year on Google Play and $29.99/year on the App Store for unlimited items, unlimited authenticator codes, cloud backup and sync, and the password security audit — roughly 70% less than Dashlane on the Play price.
Moving your vault across
Dashlane supports the Credential Exchange Protocol, so on a recent phone it can hand your logins straight to DroidPass with no export file. A transfer is also exempt from the free item limit, which means an entire Dashlane vault lands in DroidPass on the free plan.
One caveat about passkeys. We have seen passkeys exported from Dashlane rejected by the sites they belong to — including when they were exported into Apple Passwords rather than DroidPass, which points at the export rather than the destination. Passwords come across cleanly. If a transferred passkey will not sign you in, create a fresh one at that site once your vault is in DroidPass; it takes seconds and the old one can be deleted.

Security: how each protects your vault
Both apps encrypt your vault with AES-256 on the device before anything is stored or synced. DroidPass adds biometric unlock (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint), an auto-lock timer, and screenshot prevention on Android. Passkeys are held under a Secret Key that is generated on your device and never sent to us, so a new device needs that key as well as your Master PIN before it can open them.

Where DroidPass is stronger
- There is a free plan — Dashlane removed theirs on 16 September 2025.
- About 70% cheaper — Pro is $17.99/year on Google Play against Dashlane Premium at roughly $59.88.
- Bring everything free — a direct transfer ignores the free item limit, so your entire Dashlane vault arrives without paying a thing.
- Passkeys on every platform — create one on Android, iPhone, iPad or an Apple Silicon Mac and sign in with it on the others.
- 29 languages with RTL support — against roughly ten.
- More than passwords — cards, bank details, Wi-Fi, secure notes and contacts in the same encrypted vault.
How to switch from Dashlane to DroidPass
- Install DroidPass and set your Master PIN. If you want your passkeys too, turn passkeys on first.
- On Android, open Settings → Transfer from another app → Start transfer and pick Dashlane. On iPhone (iOS 26), start in Dashlane and choose DroidPass as the destination.
- No transfer option? Export a CSV from Dashlane, then use Settings → Import Passwords → Dashlane.
- If you used a CSV, delete the file afterwards — it holds every password in readable text.
DroidPass vs Dashlane FAQ
Does Dashlane still have a free plan?
No. Dashlane discontinued its free plan on 16 September 2025, so every Dashlane user is now on a paid subscription or a trial. DroidPass still has a free tier: unlimited devices, import from other apps, one built-in 2FA authenticator code, and a transfer that brings your whole vault across without an item limit.
Can I move my passwords from Dashlane to DroidPass?
Yes, and usually without a file. Dashlane supports the Credential Exchange Protocol, so it can hand your logins straight to DroidPass — and a transfer ignores the free item limit, so an entire vault arrives on the free plan. A CSV export also works: Settings → Import Passwords → Dashlane.
Will my passkeys come across from Dashlane?
Your passwords will. Passkeys are less reliable: we have seen passkeys exported from Dashlane rejected by the websites they belong to, including when exported into Apple Passwords rather than DroidPass, which suggests the problem is in the export itself. If a transferred passkey will not sign you in, create a new one at the site once your vault is in DroidPass.
Is DroidPass cheaper than Dashlane?
Considerably. Dashlane Premium is $4.99/month billed annually, about $59.88 a year. DroidPass Pro is $17.99/year on Google Play and $29.99/year on the App Store, and there is a free tier underneath it that Dashlane no longer offers.
Stop paying for a password manager
Install DroidPass free and bring your Dashlane vault across in minutes. No subscription needed, and the transfer ignores the free item limit.
