Turn on passkeys

Passkeys are off until you enrol. Turning them on creates the Secret Key that protects them, which is why the Emergency Kit comes next.

Why this matters

Passkeys are off until you enrol, because turning them on creates the Secret Key that protects them. That key is generated on your device and never leaves it, which is why the Emergency Kit comes immediately after.

Steps

  1. Open the side menu and tap Passkeys.
  2. Turn on passkeys
  3. Confirm with Face ID, your fingerprint or your Master PIN.
  4. Save the Emergency Kit when it appears. Do not skip it.

What happens next

This Secret Key protects your passkeys. Save the PDF somewhere safe: you will need it to use passkeys on another device, or if you forget your Master PIN. DroidPass cannot recover it for you.

If it does not work

  • Could not turn on passkeys. Check your connection and try again.
  • Passkeys were set up on another device. Enter the Secret Key from your Emergency Kit, or scan the code shown in DroidPass on that device.
  • In your Emergency Kit: the PDF DroidPass created when you turned passkeys on.
  • On the phone that set them up: Settings › Emergency Kit.
  • Wherever you kept that PDF: downloads, cloud storage, email, or a printed copy.
  • Without the Secret Key these passkeys cannot be opened by anyone, including DroidPass. Deleting them is permanent and affects every device on this account.

Good to know

  • This Secret Key protects your passkeys. Save the PDF somewhere safe: you will need it to use passkeys on another device, or if you forget your Master PIN. DroidPass cannot recover it for you.
  • Keep another way to sign in to each site, such as its password. If this key is ever lost, that is how you get back in.
  • Turn passkeys on before transferring from another app, or the transfer skips them.
